AP Calculus BC is a college-level calculus course and exam that covers everything in AB plus infinite series and parametric, polar and vector functions across ten units. The exam runs 3 hours 15 minutes: Section I is 45 multiple-choice questions and Section II is 6 free-response questions, each split into calculator and no-calculator parts, scored from 1 to 5. BC also reports an AB subscore. It's taken in May, and a 3 or higher is the common passing line — confirm your target college's credit policy.
Two sections, ten units, an AB subscore
BC uses the same 3h 15m, two-section format as AB, but adds series and parametric, polar and vector functions — and reports a separate AB subscore.
45 questions, in two parts.
One part allows a graphing calculator and the other doesn't. Discrete questions span AB topics plus series, parametric, polar and vector functions — worth half your score.
6 questions, in two parts.
Multi-step problems split into a calculator part and a no-calculator part. They reward correct setup, clear justification and full work — the other half of your score.
A 1–5, plus an AB subscore.
The sections combine into one 1–5; BC also reports a separate AB subscore from its AB-level content. A 3 is "qualified." Credit policies are set by each college — confirm yours.
